Concept Art Characters

I want to try and create some concept art for the sound design and composer pitch that has been organised. My plan is to play a slideshow of concept art, character design and setting against a piece of music that I've discovered that I think really shows what sort of mood and atmosphere I'm trying to convey in my film. I found a short piano piece called 'For Storm Boy' by Rhiannon Bannenberg. I'll try to link it down below.
I'm still not entirely sure what sort of music I want to have alongside my film but I find this piece of music very beautiful and along the lines of what I'm going for.

I wanted to do some quick drawings of my characters in order to capture movement and expression. I have a lot of trouble doing quick images as I like to make every drawing absolutely perfect. I think I have used shape well within these drawings and even though they're not up to standard I'm glad I did them to see how my characters interact and what sort of scale I'm working to. I'm going to scan these images in and work into them more thoroughly in photoshop with my tablet. I especially want to play around a bit with light and shadow.

From the pencil drawing I've done in this sketch book I took a few to colour and experiment with in photoshop. These images are too dark when printed however, they look much better on screen. I think that this particular drawing is quite boring to be honest - there's no movement and it's quite wooden - I just wanted to see the size of the familiar in comparison to her and to play around with making things glow as I'd never done that before on photoshop, so I had a look at a few tutorials. I'm definitely going to continue with this look - I think it's better than the more mystical character design - I want her to look relatively normal although I think that her clothing has room for improvement. I also like the brushes I've used for these images. I need to make a list so that I don't forget.

As before, the printer has made the image far too dark whereas on screen it looked much better (as you can see). However, I really like the composition of this image. I love this image as I drew the hands first time, as well as this, it's a very stylish portrait. I'm not sure if I want a clip such as this in the film, it may just be good for concept art. This is also the first time I have shown the familiar as another animal - a fox. I also love the foliage brush, I'd like to use this brush for the familiar. For example, leaves on its fur and leaves when it shape shifts and transforms? I like the colour of her outfit too and I like the long sleeves on her much more than short ones.

I am so happy with house this concept art turned out - it appeared exactly how I imagined it inside my head. This is definitely a clip that I want to include within my film, I'm going to experiment with this clip to try and make the plant grow and glow - it will be my first animation test. Everyone has reacted very positively with this piece of concept art - I think it really captures the atmosphere and essence of the film. I love the simple background and minimal colour palette. It has really inspired me to continue making this film.
