It took me a while to come up with my final shot, but I knew that I wanted it to include the witch and the Familiar together while she enjoyed her meal. I also knew that I needed to inject more magic into it, to remind the audience one more time of the witch's powers. I don't explain who the witch is, nor why she has powers, so I think that this will definitely leave the audience with unanswered questions, it will leave them wanting more.
This is the first version of the shot that I came up with. I wanted it to obviously follows the element of symmetry that I'd set up throughout the rest of my film, but I didn't the foliage to be perfectly symmetrical, it needed to look a little natural. I decided to have the audience outside in the woods and looking in on their house. I think it's quite a visually striking scene which is pleasing to look at. The contrasting colours of green and yellow are calming and inviting, respectively. I think I've achieved a really nice warm scene to end this film with.
Regarding the animation, I decided to have her levitating to reflect the reveal of her powers in the opening scene - it would bring the film full circle. Even though she levitates, she still eats from the bowl herself. She is a witch but also retains human abilities and qualities. However, I think I'm going to remove the fireflies and the Familiar's tail. The fireflies are a little much, and I feel like the Familiar's tail moves too much and distracts from what's actually happening in the scene.
This will be the final version of the final shot that I'll include in my film. I've removed the fireflies and the Familiar's tail because I thought that a little bit too much was going on. The levitation of the witch as well as the Familiar being in cat form again has made the film come full circle. I think it's a striking and simple ending shot. Understated and subtle but no less enjoyable to experience, much like the rest of the film.
