Finding the Composer & Sound Designer

I had quite a lot of trouble finding a composer and a sound designer for this film through university. I didn't get much attention at first, and the people who were approaching me to score it weren't really what I was looking for. I always knew that I wanted it to be simple piano, perhaps some strings involved but nothing major. I also wanted the sound design to be very understated - it's only at the beginning of the film so I wasn't looking for anything extensive.

I was getting very frustrated that I couldn't find anyone, and with the deadline looming closer I decided to think outside the box a little bit. There's a large group on Facebook called The Meadows Share where people give things/services away for free, give advice, and just about anything else. I decided to post in the group to see if anyone was interested. I thought that it would be a good way to expand the search, maybe even find a professional who would help a poor student out!

Sound Designer & Composer Search

I posted a few of the stills from my film along with what I was looking for and I got an overwhelming amount of interest from this post - which was both a blessing and a curse. It took a lot of time to sort through everyone and some people wouldn't actually take no for an answer which was a little worrying, but I eventually found a sound designer and a composer after about a week of listening to various pieces of music that had been sent to me! My sound designer is another student from Dundee called Crispin Joseph, and my composer is an Edinburgh alumni, named Theo Le Derf.
