Opening Scene: Drinking Tea

This shot is now the first time that the audience observes and meets the witch, so this makes it a relevantly important one. I knew that I wanted to keep it tight so as not to ruin the reveal of her levitating at the end. I also was confident in which colours I would use as they would have to be the same as the colours in the final wide shot of her house.
Before I made this sequence I spoke to Mike about any short cuts he knew of that would make the colouring aspect of my film easier. I wanted to see if there was a way that I could still have the beautiful brush strokes and textures of the Kyle Brushes that I use without having to individually colour each frame and clean up afterwards, something which takes an incredibly long time. Unfortunately, this isn't something that's possible so I've accepted the fact that I'm going to have a lot of work on my hands.
In a way to combat this and to make it easier for myself, I changed the brush that I used for the witch and also for the Familiar so it would easier to rub out and colour back in. It makes her colours much more vibrant and vivid than the background and in this shot I don't think that it especially looks that good, but this is just something that I'll have to deal with. I think that the animation is a little slow in this sequence, so I may look at removing some frames to speed up the process of her tea drinking. I also need to add some dust particles so that it matches with the wide shot at the end.
With this second version I added floating dust particles into the scene so that it flowed better with the final shot. I still think that there's something not quite right with it though, and I'm not sure if I want it in the opening shot at all. It's something I'll have to think about moving forwards because I need to introduce the witch in some sort of way before the big reveal.
