Opening Scene: Final Clip

As the final clip is the only part of the film without music, I need to find a sound designer for it. I went on freesound.org to find some basic clips to put over the top so that when I send it to a sound designer they would have some sort of idea of what I'd like. The sounds are primitive but they'll do for now.
I also wanted to experiment with having a soft boil effect over this clip as a lot of the shots are very simple and flat. I'm going to use After Effects to achieve this look as I think that it will add some depth to the opening sequence. The animation in it is very simple and in the small details so I think that a soft boil will be a great addition.
Version 1:
Despite thinking that the soft boil would be a good effect to add, I think that it was a mistake. I'm quite annoyed as I spent a full day trying this out as I'm not that confident with After Effects and the hard work hasn't paid off, but I suppose that's all part of the process. I think that with this boil effect there is too much going on and it almost ruins the scenes. Especially the plant room scene, I now realise that it should be completely still to evoke a sense of early morning calm.
Version 2:
I definitely prefer this version without the boil. I've come to realise that what makes my film work is the magic in the small details. If I have too much going on it will be over whelming for the audience. My backgrounds and style are so illustrative and rich that they should be able to focus on that without anything else distracting them. Another thing that I noticed is that the contrast of the dark walls in the clock and plant room scene between the kettle and tea scene is quite harsh. I may explore my colour options there and see if there's anything else that makes the transition smoother. I also want to look at redoing the steam animation with a softer brush as I think that the scene is a little caustic. Furthermore, I want to try and introduce the witch from a different angle when she drinks the tea. Perhaps a really close shot of her side profile would be nice and it would make the wide angle ending that much more striking.
