Opening Scene: Levitation

This is my final and most important scene in the whole opening sequence. I spent a really long time creating its background and getting it just right because I knew that it had to be perfect. It's a very complex shot with lots of different components that help to foreshadow the rest of the story, so after creating the preliminary background I made some objects and items to go into the scene separately.

I knew that I wanted the room to be filled with plants due to her love of nature, and I needed a record player and some books to foreshadow the rest of the story. I think that they turned out really well and they sit nicely in the scene. I also needed a separate illustration of the witch so that I could key frame her levitating slowly in the final shot.

This is the textured colour version which I think looks nicer but would be much more time consuming to colour frame by frame due to the nature of the brush. Instead of just adding more colour where needed I would have to colour the whole frame again so recreate the same watercolour texture that I want to achieve.

As I said in my previous post, I've had to make a sacrifice with her design so that it would be less time consuming and easier to colour. This version of the witch is much clearer and more vibrant as I've used flat colour. It will also be easier to colour as I will be able to use the fill bucket tool and have minimal clean up. I hope that it will look okay.

This is a screenshot of the final scene and I'm really pleased with the way that it looks. I think that her love for nature and plants comes across well and the lighting is good.

This is the same as the first image, however, I've made a few slight improvements. I added some floating dust particles to the scene to give it depth and I've made the lighting stronger and more effective so it's more of a spotlight on her.
Levitation Version 1:
I think that the key framing of the shadow moving is perfect in this shot, however, I do think that there's too much dust and there's too much going on to take everything in at once. In my next version I'll remove some of the dust particles to create a smoother and more relaxed clip.
Levitation Verson 2:
I think that this version has really improved the final scene. The lighting is great and my decision to use fewer dust particles that also move slower has made it a really striking clip. I'm not sure how long I want it to be but perhaps around 10 seconds so that the audience has time to take in all the information that I've included in the image.
