Nature/Forest/Environment
Very illustrative film, emphasis on aesthetic - maybe hand drawn backgrounds behind 2D digital animation.
Lots of nice colour palettes to fit time of day/time of year - fluctuate between warm and cool tones.
Need to research in Edinburgh Botanical Gardens and Blackford Hill for environmental inspiration.
Perhaps an excursion to Benmore for Botanical Gardens there if I have the time and means.
Plant/Botanical Witch
Not a typically 'spooky' witch, she's more of a forest guardian.
Lives in the forest, helps it grow and transition between seasons, without her the forest would struggle.
She is a massive influence on the forest - can it live without her? Can we live without nature?
This magical twist to the film will help to show off my animation skills.
Lots of small, delicate/nice animation rather than large and complex sequences.
The Familiar/Companion
It goes absolutely everywhere with her, is it her spirit guide? Intrinsically linked to each other.
Can change shape at will to suit the needs of the environment/situation - mostly woodland creatures such as an owl, fox, squirrel, deer etc. Main form is a black cat (obviously).
Instead of it traditionally doing her errands and bidding they work as a team - they are BEST FRIENDS.
Should it provide comedy throughout the film? Mischievous elements to its character.
It's a supernatural entity for companionship and assistance with life.
The Four Seasons
Does she help the forest change and transition? Is she intrinsically linked to it? Exploration of 'mother nature'.
The changing colour palettes could signify seasonal changes, warm for summer cold for winter etc.
Minimal colour palettes used in the shots - perhaps only a maximum of 4/5.
Plants/Forests
Am I trying to include a subliminal message within the film?
Could I use it to teach others to look after our nature and wildlife?
Educational animation, highlight the importance of plants and nature.
