Scene 2: The Plant Pages

I decided to add some colour to the plant pages and experiment with the sort of palette I want to go for. I want muted, natural colours. As they're plants I think I'll stick with greens, browns, reds, and blues.

These are the first colour variants that I used for the plant pages. I wanted to stay within a limited colour palette for each page, so I used 4 separate colour variants of green, blue, red, and brown. I think that they've turned out nicely, but I've decided against using this colour variation in my film as I think that they're too limited. By using these colours it makes them look too themed. I'd like to come up with a more multi-faceted colour palette for these pages instead.

I decided to use this colour palette for my plant book pages. I think they're all nice, muted, and natural colours which compliment each other well.

I really prefer the use of this multi-faceted colour palette in place of the more limited and seemingly themed one. I think that they look more like actual plants that she's found and documented, the other versions looked a little bit like a colouring in book with a strict theme that she had to follow. I think that the variations go well together to create a very pleasing aesthetic.
Creating this segment of the scene was very time consuming due to all the different plant designs, colouring, and detail. I decided that I wanted the animation side of things to be quite simple and understated so it wouldn't distract from this. I chose simple lighting effects panning across the book pages, just like in the shot before so that it would link them together. I like the way that it's turned out and I think that the 'turning' pages come across well despite not actually making the witch turn them herself which would be very time consuming and probably not as effective as this.
