Scene 3: Forest Shadow

I decided to use an image I created last year as inspiration for this scene. I've already talked about it in previous posts but I'll add it again here as a reminder.

Winter Forest

I really like this piece of concept art due to the shadows and lighting. I feel like animating the shadows of the trees could be a very visually striking way of bringing this scene to life. I need to change the colours so that it's more Autumnal instead of Winter, and I may experiment with adding the witch and Familiar into it, walking through the trees to their destination.

Forest Shadow

Here's a still from the shot that I created from this image. I think that the colours work really well together. The different brushes I've used give it lots of texture and the stylistic nature of the trees comes across really well. I've straightened the shadows out a little more and added the witch and the Familiar in there too.

This is the first version of the shot. I've added the witch and the Familiar walking through the forest, as well as making the shadows of the trees move. I also added a shadow behind the witch and the Familiar but I don't think it looks very good at all. I could try and experiment with a different kind of shadow or just get rid of it all together to save time.

This is the final version of the shot. To save time I didn't bother experimenting with creating a different shadow, I just decided to get rid of it. I think that it makes the shot look more striking. Plus, I think that it adds yet another layer of mystery if they don't cast shadows. It reminds the audience that they're supernatural/magical beings and the laws of the real world don't necessarily affect them. I'm really glad that I added this shot as the scene needed a bit more depth to it concerning the forest. I think that the colours work really beautifully together and it strengthens the fact that this is happening during the Autumn. I also love the scaling of this shot. They're so small in the forest, it really demonstrates the vastness of this world.
