The Trailer

After the fifth scene, I seemed to hit a wall with how I wanted the film to end. I decided to step away from that particular creative process for a moment and instead concentrate on what I'd already achieved to create a trailer for the film.
I wanted to use the main theme that Theo had come up with as it's only 30 seconds long. I didn't want to give too much of the film or the film score away so I thought that this would be the perfect length - just a teaser. I asked him to re-record it so that the quality of sound was better, plus, he'd just got a new piano.
This is the trailer that I uploaded to Vimeo and shared on social media. I think that it works really well in a number of ways. The majority of the trailer is made up of shots of the landscape, the forest, and the environment. There isn't any action in it to speak of - until the end. The last shot gives you a glimpse of a foot, seemingly human, yet as the foot steps on the ground flowers and plants grow from where it's been. There is so much about that final shot which is left unsaid. Who does the foot belong to? Is this a magical film? Where is it set and when?
I feel like even though the trailer is a mere 30 seconds it really sets up these questions for the viewer. The feedback I've got from people has all been positive and they all have the same question - what happens next?
I think that the trailer also does a really good job of revealing the aesthetic and tone of the film. The colours make it clear that it's set during the Autumn and the choice of shots don't give anything away except maybe a sense of calm nostalgia. Also, with the shots of the plants, I'm glad I used them instead of the new clips where she's gathering them as it would have given too much away. Even though I'm not particularly fond of the plants with the light rays and dusty bits, I'm glad I used them because otherwise it would have rendered the trailer useless.
